The short version

In one line

MEGAKRUNCH makes plugins for After Effects and Premiere Pro that wreck footage on purpose.

In one paragraph

MEGAKRUNCH is a one-person plugin company that started in New York in 2020. Its five native plugins for After Effects and Premiere Pro (Pixel_Encoder, Dither Decay, Glitch Control, CRT Converter, and Hacksaw) each break the image a different way: into pattern tiles, dithered pixels, glitch slices, a CRT screen, or random displacement. Every plugin is a one-time purchase with free updates, sold at megakrunch.com and on aescripts.

Latest

CRT Converter 1.5

September 2026, v1.5

CRT Converter 1.5

Curved glass with a feathered bezel, a soft-phosphor Enhanced mode, and moire-free rendering up to Ultra quality. Free for every existing owner.

The plugins

  • Pixel_Encoder

    Pixel_Encoder $39 v1.7.1

Rebuilds footage as a grid of pattern tiles driven by its brightness, somewhere between ASCII art and a hacked surveillance feed. The first MEGAKRUNCH plugin, inspired by Watch Dogs 2.

  • Dither Decay

    Dither Decay $39 v1.1.2

Crushes footage through eight classic dithering algorithms, Floyd-Steinberg, Bayer, and Atkinson among them, into lo-fi pixel art in 11 built-in palettes or your own.

  • Glitch Control

    Glitch Control $39 v1.1.2

Four glitch modules (RGB Controls, Displacement, Stretch, and Color Cycle) that work alone or stacked, so the damage lands exactly where you want it.

  • CRT Converter

    CRT Converter $39 v1.5.1

Turns clean pixels into a CRT screen, layer by layer: phosphor pattern, scanline gaps, glow, curved glass, and vignette, each with its own off switch.

  • Hacksaw

    Hacksaw $29 v1.1.2

Randomly generated displacement that tears the frame into strips. Change the seed for a new cut, and let the built-in animation engine scan it across the image.

All five run in After Effects and Premiere Pro on macOS and Windows. Pixel_Encoder, Dither Decay, Glitch Control, and Hacksaw are also on aescripts at the same price.

“Pixel_Encoder turns video into pixelated low-fi goodness”

Boing Boing, March 2021

The story

MEGAKRUNCH began in New York in 2020, made alone in a small apartment during the quarantine. The first plugin started as an After Effects project chasing the hacking visuals of the game Watch Dogs 2.

Turning it into a real plugin meant learning C++ from scratch through Harvard's free CS50 course. The result, Pixel_Encoder, sold the day its first ad went up. By 2021 there were five plugins, each a different way to break an image on purpose.

The same one person still designs, codes, sells, and supports every one of them, and tunes each one by eye.
